Academic Programme
Mokokchung College of Teacher Education is affiliated to Nagaland University and recognized by the National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE), New Delhi. It offers full-time regular B.Ed course of 2 (two) years consisting of 4 (four) semesters. The academic session starts from 1st July each year.
ACADEMIC CALENDAR: TENTATIVE DATES
Semester I & III:
i. Commencement of Academic Session (Semester) – July/August
ii. Commencement of Semester End Examination – 2nd week December
iii. Winter Vacation – 20th December – 20th January
Semester II & IV:
i. Commencement of Semester – 21st January
Semester IV:
School Internship : February– 2nd Week April
Post Internship & Theory Class – 3rd Week April- May
ii. Commencement of Semester End examination – 2nd week June
iii. Semester Break : 3rd week June – 2nd week July
CURRICULAR AREAS
The B.Ed. programme shall comprise three broad curricular areas – Perspectives in Education, Curriculum and Pedagogic Studies, and Engagement with the Field. The courses under each of these areas are as follows:
I. Perspectives in Education
Perspectives in Education includes courses in the study of childhood, child development and adolescence, contemporary India and education, theoretical foundations of knowledge and curriculum, teaching and learning, gender in the context of school and society, and inclusive education. The following are the six courses to be transacted in the two year period, under the curricular area of Perspectives in Education:

Course 2: Contemporary India and Education
Course 6: Learning and Teaching
Course 9: Gender, School and Society (1/2)
Course 8: Knowledge and Curriculum
Course 10: Creating an Inclusive School (1/2)
II. Curriculum and Pedagogic Studies
Curriculum and Pedagogic Studies offers a study of the nature of disciplines, critical understanding of the school curriculum; pedagogy as the integration of knowledge about the learner, the discipline and the societal context of learning, and research relating to different aspects of young children’s learning. The design of the programme would enable students to specialize in one subject area, at one/ two levels of school. The courses under the curricular area of ‘Curriculum and Pedagogic Studies’ for the two year period include:

Course 4: Understanding Disciplines and Subjects (1/2)
Course 7(i) & (iii): Pedagogy of School Subject (Major)
Course 7(ii) & (iv): Pedagogy of School Subject (Minor)

i. Vocational/Work Education
ii. Guidance and Counseling
iii. Health and Physical Education
iv. Peace Education
v. Fundamentals of Horticulture & Crop Production.
III. Engagement with the Field – the Self, the Child, Community and School
This curricular area would have three components –
-Tasks and Assignments that run through all the courses as indicated in the year wise distribution of the syllabus
-School Internship
-Courses on Enhancing Professional Capacities (EPC)
Course EPC 1: Understanding Self (1/2)
Course EPC 2: Critical Understanding of ICT (1/2)
Course EPC 3: Drama and Art in Education (1/2)
Course EPC 4: Reading and Reflecting on Texts (1/2)
School Internship (Engagement with the Field)
Minimum of 20 weeks (4+16) shall be allocated over the two years for task, assignments and school internship.
School internship will be taken in four phases:
- Pre-Internship-2 weeks in the 1st Semester, 2 weeks in the 2nd Semester
- Internship
- Post- Internship
- Final teaching.
Note:
- Options for Pedagogy Papers will be made as per subject specialization at the Graduate Degree or Master’s Degree level, and option given during the CET B.Ed, Nagaland University. Student Teachers graduating in Science will only be permitted to opt for a combination of Pedagogy papers in Science and Mathematics, while those from Arts and Commerce backgrounds will be permitted a combination of Social Sciences and English.
ATTENDANCE
- The Nagaland University Norms on Attendance will apply for all student teachers enrolled for the programme. A minimum of 80 % and 90% Attendance for Theory and Practical classes/activities respectively, is to be maintained in each Semester.
- A candidate who does not satisfy the requirement of attendance shall not be eligible to take the Semester-end Examination of the concerned semester.
- A candidate who fails to satisfy the requirement of attendance in a semester may rejoin the same semester in the subsequent odd/even semesters.
- Considering absent for one period for one whole day stands. However, student-teachers will be granted half-day leave only on genuine grounds, provided that they submit advance leave along with proof. However, only a maximum of two such cases will be granted per month.
- In case of absence, application for Leave is to be submitted to the authority, which may or may not be granted, depending on the merit of the reason for Leave.
- Attendance on the first and last working days after and before any academic breaks of 4 or more days is compulsory. Anyone absenting on such days will be treated as absent for the total number of days of academic break.
STRUCTURE AND SCHEME OF EXAMINATION
- There shall be a University examination at the end of each semester.

SCHOOL INTERNSHIP
Minimum of 20 weeks (4+16) shall be allocated over the two years for task, assignments and school internship. School internship will be taken in four phases:
a. Pre-Internship observation in schools: 2 weeks in the 1st Semester (1st Phase);
Pre-Internship (Teaching Skills): 2 weeks in the 2nd Semester (2nd Phase)
b. Internship in Schools
c. Post- Internship
d. Final Teaching.
A. PRE-INTERNSHIP: It involves the following activities for a period of four (4) weeks in the first year: Pre-Internship observation in Schools-2 weeks in the 1st Semester; Pre-Internship (Teaching Skills)- 2 weeks in the 2nd Semester. All the Pre-Internship activities will cover 50 marks.
I. Observation of the real class room situation (Minimum of 2 Schools-Private/ Government, Different Boards eg. NBSE/CBSE, Rural/Urban) and the whole school environment. Before teaching in the classroom, the student-teacher will observe a regular classroom in the school for a week, to understand the school in totality, its philosophy and aims, organization and management, need of children curriculum and its transaction, assessment of teaching and learning.
II. Peer group discussion
III. Preparing a feedback and suggestion based on the observation of the real classroom situation and the whole school environment
IV. Sample demonstration/viewing different classroom situation
V. Input from teacher educators
VI. Context analysis and reflection (JNV, KV, Eklavya)
B. INTERNSHIP AT SCHOOL:
I. Internship duration will be compulsorily for 16 weeks (as per the NCTE Norms 2014 Regulations (PP. 115-116) covering both Rural and Urban Schools.
II. Internship (Total of 200 marks) for two Pedagogy Papers (100 marks each).
III. Students have to opt for any of the following two pedagogy subject combinations-
a) English-Social Science and
b) Science-Mathematics
IV. Pedagogy-1: (25 observation+25 viva voce+25 lesson plan record+25 achievement test record) and
Pedagogy-2: (25 observation+25 viva voce+25 lesson plan record+25 achievement test record)
V. Number of Learning Plans- 25 (Major Pedagogy)
25 (Minor Pedagogy)
VI. During internship, a student-teacher shall work as a regular teacher and participate in all the school activities, scholastic, including planning, teaching and assessment, interacting with school teachers, community members, parents and children.
VII. Reflective journals and reports to be maintained during the internship period (A minimum of 50 classes).
C. POST-INTERNSHIP: Post internship duration will be of 4 weeks (one month) for 50 marks. It involves the following activities.
I. Writing reflective journals or reports on the whole school internship programme of 20 weeks.
II. Extended discussion among the student-teachers.
III. Presentations by student-teachers on different aspects of the teaching experiences after the internship.
